He is succeeded in the position (which becomes archbishop in 1875) by Benedict Fenwick (1825*), John Fitzpatrick (1846*), John Williams (1866*), William O’Connell (1907*), Richard Cushing (1944*), Humberto Medeiros (1970*), Bernard Law (1984*), Sean O’Malley (2003*), and Richard Henning (2024).
